Reducing the Vulnerability of the Wetlands to the Impacts of the Climate Change
Ongoing climate change is significantly altering the dynamics of ecosystems and threatening their ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. Assessing vulnerability to climate change is a key aspect for measures to promote ecosystem resilience.
The quantification of the vulnerability of the territory will be based on the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) approach using indicators of exposure, sensitivity and adaptation capacity of the environment. With increasing exposure to the impacts of a changing climate and increasing sensitivity due to the presence of endangered species, the only way to reduce the vulnerability is to significantly increase the adaptive capacity of the area. This will be achieved by promoting overall biodiversity, restoring and stabilizing ecosystems and their services, and making more efficient use of natural processes.
The goal of the project is to significantly reduce the wetlands' vulnerability to the negative impacts of the climate change on 75% of the project territory. Based on the measures taken, habitat resilience is expected to increase by another 10% after the end of the project.
