SAC Slanisko Novosedly

Natura 2000: CZ0620187 Area: 2.1 ha District: Břeclav

The Novosedly salt marsh was selected as a project site due to its location near other project areas, the presence of the priority inland salt meadow habitat *1340 (covering about 20% of the Site of Community Importance), and opportunities for collaboration with local livestock breeders. In recent years, the condition of the marsh has deteriorated. Previous conservation measures, including mowing and grazing with sheep and goats, proved insufficient. The marsh gradually lost its rare salt-tolerant species and became overgrown, primarily with the invasive creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera). The previous biomass removal efforts were inadequate, leading to further overgrowth by invasive species. As a result, we recommended grazing with larger livestock and mowing with biomass removal.

Since May 2024, a small herd of cows has been grazing here in collaboration with enthusiastic local breeders.
