SAC Hodonínská doubrava
Land use: 85,3 % nature conservation, 14,7 % farming
The project site is a part of the SAC Hodonínská doubrava. The area of 15 ha is included in the Kosteliska Bird Reserve, established and managed by the project partner, South Moravian Branch of the Czech Society of Ornithology.
The project site was chosen for its position in southern Moravia, and precisely for being under the long-term management of the project partner, with a significant potential of expanding the management into a larger area in support of biodiversity.
Presence of the basal and diagnostic plant species of the 1340* priority habitat inland salt meadows has been also documented, as well as the presence of the target animal species: european fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina), Danube crested newt (Triturus dobrogicus), moor frog (Rana arvalis), common redshank (Tringa totanus), and garganey (Spatula querquedula).
As part of the LIFE in Salt Marshes project, we aim to expand appropriate management practices, remove invasive and expansive species, and create a diverse mosaic of vegetation across additional wetland areas within this Natura2000 site.
