SAC Vrbovecký rybník
Main types of land use: 64,7 % nature conservation, 35,3 % farming
Vrbovec Pond was selected as a project site due to its location in South Moravia, within the floodplain of the Vrbovec stream, and because it includes 3.68 hectares of inland salt meadows, a habitat of European priority (1340). This area contains key plant species typical of this type of salt marsh vegetation. It is also home to several rare and endangered animal species, including the European fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina), the redshank (Tringa totanus), and the garganey duck (Spatula querquedula).
Since November 2024, part of the project site has been used for grazing by Galloway cattle, a hardy breed that requires minimal grazing management and can tolerate the wet conditions here. The Vrbovec Hunting Association oversees the grazing area, and we thank them for their helpful cooperation!
